Loudoun is not only known for its scenic beauty, but also for being a perfect destination for lovebirds; embodying the "Virginia is for Lovers" tagline. Whether you're a local or just visiting, here are 10 date night - and date day! - ideas to share with your special someone, offering a perfect blend of romance and adventure amidst Loudoun's picturesque landscapes and exciting attractions.
Compete for the Heart
Face off at Pev’s Paintball south of Leesburg, which is a 48-acre paintball park with 14 themed fields. If you don’t fancy taking your date on a Mr. and Mrs. Smith-combat style experience, team up and take on rivals in multi-member team events. There’s nothing like bonding under fire while hiding in a prison guard tower or behind a log in a Wild West borderland.
Speedway Racing
A great date is one that gets the heart racing and there’s no better way to do that than in a racing car. Or should we say, racing kart? Surprise your date with a trip to K1 Speed in Sterling, a 40,000-square- foot European-style indoor go-karting facility, the largest of its kind in Virginia. The high-speed electric Italian pro-karts are inspired by Formula One racing cars and can reach speeds of up to 50mph.
Visit a Spa
Pamper yourselves and your partner at one of Loudoun's luxury spas. King Spa in south east Loudoun is a luxurious three-story complex (with heated rooftop pool) modeled on the traditional Jjim-Jil Bang spas of South Korea. Salamander Middleburg offers a unique range of treatments from water therapy to basalt steam rooms and hot stone massages. Lansdowne Resort’s Asian-themed Spa Minérale offers therapeutic massages and bodywork including acupuncture and cupping.
Tour a Historic Home
Everyone loves Downtown Abby so pretend you're in a Merchant Ivory movie on a tour of one of Loudoun's romantic stately homes. North of Leesburg, the Davis Mansion at Morven Park has gorgeous grounds and landscaped gardens that are perfect for a late afternoon romantic stroll. South of Leesburg, Oatlands Historic House & Gardens encompasses 360 scenic acres set around a handsome Greek Revival mansion, circa 1804. In downtown Leesburg the George C. Marshall House at Dodona Manor is the home-turned-museum of the great stateman-general who drafted the Marshall Plan that rescued Europe after the war. Soak up the history then stroll over to the bars and eateries of King Street for a romantic lunch over a glass of wine.
Ride Horses Together
Loudoun is equestrian country and while there are scores of crowd-pleasing horse events to attend throughout the year, it’s even more romantic to ride one. Make your way out to Dark Spring Stables in Purcellville where accomplished horsewoman Louisa Rice leads backroad trips to a local brewery, winery or ice cream truck for amateur and professional riders. One of the stops, Walsh Family Wine, would be a worthy date stop even if traveling in a more traditional method.
Sip Wine With a View
Wine and a good date go together like strawberries and cream, and while there’s no shortage of wineries to try in Loudoun, why not combine a unique vintage with a spectacularly romantic setting? Tucked away on aptly named Tranquility Road just outside Purcellville, Otium Cellars is a boutique winery specializing in complex Austrian and German varietals such as Grüner Veltliner, Grauburgunder and Blaufränkisch, as well as classic Chardonnay, Merlot and Malbec. There are multiple settings on property to try them in, including a chic wood paneled tasting room, but we like the new gazebo out front overlooking the vines, Blue Ridge Hills and neighboring farm. Pair a glass of the 2015 Blaufränkisch Reserve with cheese and charcuterie as the sun sets and you won’t go wrong.
Dinner in a Boutique Hotel
Impress your date with a romantic dinner in Loudoun’s coolest new hotel. Opened in the summer of 2025, the boutique Hotel Burg is a 39-suite property on fashionable King Street, the culinary program overseen by the team behind the stellar Wine Kitchen up the street. Start with a gin martini in the hunt-themed Diana Lounge with its leather armchairs, plush couches and handsome bar (the martini comes with a small carafe of gin resting on a bed of crushed ice), before moving next door to sublime farm-to-fork restaurant The Huntōn. Here, Chef Vincent Badiee delivers immaculately presented oysters, mussels and bone marrow, as well as prime cuts of locally procured beef, lamb and wild game cooked on a live fire grill. The wine list is spectacular too.
Enjoy Live Music
If music be the food of love, take your date to see a live band. Most Loudoun breweries have live music on weekends – check out the line up at Vanish Farmwoods Brewery, Lost Barrel and Honor Brewing – while Loudoun’s wineries host bands and music festivals year round. 868 Estate Vineyards outside Hillsboro stages the annual LoCo Fest in late summer while Potomac winery Tarara hosts the popular Tarara Summer Concert Series on Saturday evenings from June through September, retro acts and big name cover bands performing. If you want music but also the proximity of downtown nightlife, historic Leesburg cinema-turned concert hall Tally Ho Theater hosts big name artists such as Shovels & Rope and David Allen Coe as well as cover bands, all in the heart of the old town.
Sample Craft Cocktails
Rebellion Bourbon Bar & Kitchen in downtown Leesburg was named one of the best whisky bars in America by Whisky Advocate. Night Shift, part of the SideBar complex, is a cool, low-slung top-floor lounge with an epic cocktail list. Order the Corpse Reviver #2. Mixologists at speakeasy-style Tarbenders Lounge and classy Shutters on King do spectacular Old Fashioneds and Manhattans. Order the martini at The Diana Lounge in the Hotel Burg and it comes with a small carafe of gin or vodka resting on a bed of ice. Over in Purcellville, Catoctin Creek Distilling Company offers tours and whiskey and cocktail tastings – a perfect date night for couples into distilled goods.
