Close to Dulles Airport, which has been referred to as "the town that US Steel built" grew from farmland and woods in the 1960s to Loudoun's first major planned community. Sterling, at the county's eastern border, spread around the small village of Old Sterling on Church Road establishing itself as Loudoun's first commuter development. A number of hotels and major retailers such as Dulles Town Center, Belfort Furniture, national retail chains, and numerous small stores. Visitors won't want to miss the Heritage Farm Museum of Loudoun, which documents 300 years of Loudoun's rural heritage.
