History and Culture of Loudoun County
Begin the day at Morven Park, one of Loudoun’s must-see attractions. This 1,000-acre historic estate features a restored Greek revival mansion that was once the home of World War I-era Virginia Governor Westmoreland Davis. The home features artifacts collected by Governor Davis from his trips around the world, including 15th century Persian tapestries and a Tiffany lamp.
Known to the locals as ‘Tuskies,’ Tuscarora Mill is a favorite! Housed in a 19th century grain mill in historic downtown Leesburg, it’s considered by many to be a Loudoun institution highlighting fresh and local cuisine in its historic atmosphere.
Discover historic Leesburg’s 200-plus year history by foot. Marvel at historic homes, and buildings, while walking the streets where history was made.
Next head south to Oatlands Historic House and Gardens, a National Historic Landmark. The property is the former home of George Carter, a descendant from one of Virginia’s first families and most recently the Eustis’, a well-respected Washington family. Take a guided tour of the home and grounds and make sure to check out the four-acre English terraced gardens and America's oldest restored propagation greenhouse, circa 1810.
Savor the view atop Hogback Mountain while enjoying a tasting at Stone Tower Winery. Boasting award-winning wine and breathtaking views, Stone Tower is highly regarded as one of Loudoun’s newest staples. After a tasting, sip vino on the patio, walk through the vines or visit the different tasting areas on property.
To restore your appetite, head to dinner at Monk’s BBQ. Smoking onsite, Monk’s offers BBQ classics like pulled pork and brisket, with fun inventive items like ‘Bacon on a Stick’ and ‘Memphis Nachos’ served with classic side. The trip is sure to leave your mouthwatering for more.
