October is Virginia Wine month and Loudoun is the perfect place to explore and celebrate!
Loudoun is DC's Wine Country® — with more than 50 wineries and tasting rooms set in rolling hills and tumbling river valleys just 25 miles west of Washington, DC. Most visits start in Leesburg, with close to a dozen wineries within a short drive of the historic downtown. But use Leesburg as a base to expand your horizons west to gorgeous estates of Purcellville, Hillsboro and Bluemont in the foothills of the Blue Ridge or south to Middleburg, where family-run wineries pop up next to historic homes and horse farms.
Loudoun’s tasting rooms run the gamut from restored 19th Century barns, farmhouses and modern glass-walled lounges with vineyard and mountain views to intimate, beautifully designed cellars and barrel rooms. As for varietals, Loudoun grows it all - everything from Bordeaux, Chardonnay and Viognier to Spanish-style Albariño, Italian Nebbiolo and bold tannin-rich Merlot, Tanat and Norton, the latter Virginia's native grape.
Beyond the wines, Loudoun wineries host talks, classes, grape stomping, live music, yoga in the vines and book clubs, on top of pairings, harvest dinners and farm-to-table dining with guest chefs. Explore independently or book guided winery tours and then stay overnight at our one of our hotels, resorts, inns and B&Bs, many of them surrounded by the vines. Go where the grapes grow.
