Indoor Activities
There’s a plethora of outdoor action in Loudoun to get the pulse racing but you can stay active indoors too, with adrenaline-filled activities such as go-karting, ice skating, ten-pin bowling and even axe-throwing. In Sterling, K1 Speed (formerly Autobahn Indoor Speedway) is a Formula 1-inspired go-kart racing facility where the electric-powered vehicles reach speeds of up to 50mph on a Grand Prix-style track. In Ashburn, the Ashburn Ice House is Loudoun’s original ice skating rink; TopGolf on Route 7 lets you practice your long game while drinking cocktails and at nearby iFly Loudoun you can fly without a parachute in an indoor wind tunnel that simulates skydiving.
Further west, in Leesburg, retro-style bowling alley The Branch has 16 lanes (each named for a Loudoun town or village) as well as a restaurant and bar, while in Purcellville you can roll back the years at vintage wood-floor roller-skating rink Bush Tabernacle, wildly popular with small kids and trendy teens. As for that axe-throwing, Axes & Os in Sterling is a spacious, warehouse-style complex with 16 targets to throw at and skilled staff on hand to lend instruction, while Elysium Axe Bar in Purcellville has eight throwing lanes and uses state-of-the-art projection technology to create targets out of video games or the boxes in tic tac toe.
