In this itinerary, a history lover steps into Loudoun's time capsule with four hours to spare.

Start your day with a guided tour of one of Loudoun’s true historic treasures,  George C. Marshall’s Dodona Manor. Filled with fine art, antiques and original furniture, the National Historic Landmark in downtown Leesburg was the private residence of Statesman-General George C. Marshall who drafted the Marshall Plan to rebuild Europe after WW2.

After the house tour and a walk through the grounds, head over for brunch in the secret garden at Shoes Cup and Cork. The cozy former shoe shop has a secluded courtyard out back with a bocce ball court, flowering gardens and tables set under shade trees and umbrellas. Magical.

After brunch it’s time to explore downtown. King Street is lined with local and independently owned shops and boutiques. Don’t miss the quirky gifts and designs at Brick and Mortar, local product at Very Virginia Shop and the vintage items and contemporary fashions at Muz & Rose. Following the retail therapy, treat yourself to freshly made macarons at popular downtown ice cream and candy store Mocatinas.

Finish your visit at the Loudoun Museum, a two story space on Loudoun Street featuring rotating exhibits on everything from Loudoun during the Civil War to the origins of the Virginia wine industry.
