In this itinerary, newlyweds celebrate their love with a romantic weekend stay in horse country and endless adventures to make lasting memories.

Morning 1

Treat yourselves to a romantic stay at the Goodstone Inn and Restaurant, one of Loudoun’s most luxurious inns. Set on 265 acres of rolling horse country, the 18-room property is renowned for its heated outdoor pool and fine dining restaurant.

After dropping your bags, make your way to Middleburg for breakfast with the locals at one of the downtown coffee shops. Middleburg Common Grounds is an institution that does excellent breakfast sandwiches, while equine-themed Cuppa Giddy Up at the other end of Washington Street does great pour-overs and espresso drinks.

Walk or drive over to Salamander Middleburg, the Forbes Five Star resort just outside the historic town. Rejuvenate with a massage at its spa or walk some of the wooded trails on the 340 picturesque acres.  For a more exhilarating adventure, try the Tree Top Zip Tour by Salamander Adventures.

Afternoon

It’s time for lunch. Make your way to downtown Leesburg, a 20-minute drive north, where there are more than a dozen restaurants and cafes on King Street, Loudoun’s restaurant row. We recommend the oysters, crab cakes and tuna tartare at King Street Oyster Bar and the Farm Bowl salad and gourmet sandwiches at Cowbell Kitchen, a farm-to-fork bakery and café with a sunlit courtyard.

After lunch, spend an afternoon at one of the many indoor recreational sports facilities in eastern Loudoun. iFly Loudoun, Top Golf or K1 Speed all get the pulse racing or book a tandem padel lesson with one of the pros at Padel Up! – a new state-of-the-art facility for the fast-growing sport of Padel.

Evening

By late afternoon, return to Middleburg for a tasting at Boxwood Estate Winery then back to Goodstone for an intimate evening. Take a walk through the grounds to learn more about the property’s gardens and sustainable farming practices and then dress up for a romantic dinner in The Conservatory, the inn’s exquisite restaurant. Sit down to a mouthwatering four-course Chef’s Table dinner paired with stunning views of the rolling hills and forests of horse country through towering windows.

Morning 2

Before heading home, check out some of the other places locals love to visit. If you’d like to stay out west, enjoy breakfast at the iconic Tammy’s Diner in Round Hill where owner Tammy Hines serves tasty omelets and blueberry pancakes, then drive into the Blue Ridge Mountains for a short hike to Bear’s Den Overlook with its spectacular views of the Shenandoah Valley. If you’re heading east toward Washington D.C., Silver Diner in South Riding is a cool retro breakfast stop while 600-acre Reservoir Park offers boat rentals, kayaking and waterfront hiking trails.
