Mother’s Day is May 9th and there are countless ways to recognize the most important woman in the world right here in Loudoun. Indeed, you don’t have to limit yourself to Sunday events. Here are some of the best ways to celebrate mom this Mother’s Day weekend.

Mother's Day Flowers

There’s no shortage of flowery ways to impress mom this Mother’s Day. Internationally renowned designer Holly Chapple’s Hope Flower Farm in Waterford will be open on Mother’s Day weekend. Pick up flowers at the farm on Friday, Saturday or Sunday mornings, or make a reservation to picnic with mom on Saturday or Sunday afternoons. Guests get to stroll the gorgeous gardens, take pictures next to a floral installation Chapple is creating and visit the flower shop on the farm to browse or purchase vases, ribbons, hand-made soaps and arrangements. Fabbioli Cellars will be onsite to supply wine. At Walsh Family Wine north of Purcellville, the flower truck of Leesburg floral farm Wild for Wildflowers will be selling bouquets or loose stem flowers to make your own arrangements. Wine will be available on site and James Magner of Regnier-Raffin will be pouring Grand Cru Champagne from 12 to 3 pm. Meanwhile, at Dirt Farm Brewing in Bluemont, Fleur De Leah Flower Farm will be offering beautiful home-grown and hand-picked bouquets for $25 each, part of the scenic brewery’s Mother’s Day Brunch & Bouquets event starting at 11 am.

Mother's Day Exercise

Get the weekend off to a healthy start by sending mom to Vanish Farmwoods Brewery’s Mother’s Day Barre Class on May 8th at 10 am – barre being a workout technique inspired by elements of ballet, yoga and pilates. The free, hour-long pop-up class is hosted by Pure Barre Frederick and Pure Barre Leesburg.  Of course, once the exercise is done, mom can enjoy a guilt-free glass of superb Vanish beer (try the Lucketts Store Light Pilsner), glasses of wine or oysters and BBQ from a myriad of food trucks.

Mother's Day Craft Workshop

On May 8th at 11 am the popular and inventive AR Workshop in The Village at Leesburg hosts a DIY arts and craft class to celebrate mom. Either make the perfect gift for her yourself – anything from porch signs and dinner table centerpieces to canvas bags and decorative wall hangings – or enjoy some special time crafting together. With every adult project, a child can make a 10x10 wood sign for free.

Mother's Day Brunches

At the above-mentioned Dirt Farm Brewing Mother’s Day Brunch & Bouquets event Chef Justin Garrison constructs two delicious plates: a light and refreshing blue crab frittata with spinach and gruyere topped with gulf shrimp hollandaise, and a hearty filet mignon roast with grilled asparagus and potato hash. Drinks-wise there’s a refreshing BeerMosa cocktail. Tickets are $24 per adult, children's half plate available for $12. At the luxe Salamander Resort & Spa, celebrate with a decadent Mother’s Day brunch in family and chef’s station styles starting at 9 am ($125 per adult, $45 per child). Options include cold water oysters, buttermilk waffles, fried chicken with house-made hot sauce and a chef’s carving station where a roasted pork loin comes under the knife. Unlimited mimosas for mom and dad. The Stable at Bluemont Vineyard meanwhile hosts Mother’s Day Chef’s Table Brunch on Saturday and Sunday (11 am-3 pm, starting at $99). Master Chef Jeremy Thrasher’s five-course farm-fresh menu can be paired with Bluemont Wines, each course presented by the Chef and a Wine Ambassador who will share the history of the farm vineyard and details of the produce on the plate.

Mother's Day Tea Party

What mom doesn’t like a tea party? The Bird Bites Kitchen at Henway Hard Cider Company hosts a family-friendly event featuring a cold brew tea flight made of white, black and herbal teas along with a picnic spread for two, the basket including sandwiches, cream scones, mini quiche tarts, shortbread cookies and sweetbreads. Bring your own blanket or gift mom a Henway Hard Cider branded blanket to remember the day. Of course, there will be cider to try too, and a pond to relax by in the spring sunshine.

Mother's Day at a Winery

Spring is here, the countryside is lush and green and Loudoun’s farm wineries are ready to woo mom. Sunset Hills Vineyard has partnered with Purely Picnics to host Mother’s Day Picnic Extravaganza (May 9th, 11am-6pm). The package includes a two or three-hour styled picnic, themed decor, place settings, tableware, food options and of course a discount on Sunset Hills wine enjoyed on the property. At Sunset Hills sister property, 50 West Vineyards, the new Loudoun based business, Picnic and Pearls, will be on site providing beautifully cultivated picnics that any mother would enjoy. Boxwood Estate Winery in Middleburg is pairing 2020 spring releases with three fabulous quiches this Mother’s Day. On the menu: Sauvignon Blanc with Quiche Florentine; Sauvignon Gris with Quiche Lorraine and a crisp and summery Rosé with Broccoli and Cheddar Quiche. For the mom who likes music with her wine, Maggie Malick Wine Caves in western Loudoun will host Acoustic Moose, a south-central PA duo featuring acoustic guitar and dynamic vocal harmonies. Great to sing along to over a glass of superb White Garnacha.

Mother's Day Dinner

There are few more elegant settings than the storied Red Fox Inn & Tavern in the heart of historic Middleburg. Treat mom to a sublime Four-Course Spring Tasting Experience over Mother’s Day weekend (Friday and Saturday from 4:30 pm; Sunday from 2 pm, $125 per person). The menu starts with a choice of brie baked oysters or duck wontons followed by a bisque, cheese or salad course and then a choice of seven entrees that include balsamic glazed rack of lamb or caramelized sea scallops. The Red Fox celebrates Loudoun wines so you can pair each course with vintages from Loudoun luminaries Greenhill Winery & Vineyards, Boxwood Estate Winery and Wash Family Wine.
