Parenting is both the hardest and most rewarding job someone can have.
As a mom of a toddler, days are filled with laughter as he discovers something new, tears when a cookie breaks in two and bargaining for just one more bedtime story. Days, however, are also filled with stressful moments and not enough hours as I try to balance a full-time job with being a mother and a wife. Some days that glass of wine, or as we call it, “mommy’s juice,” can’t come soon enough while other days I just want to sit in the rocker and snuggle all night, soaking in his curious eyes and adorable smile.
Whether you have one child or eight, a job outside the home or not, there is no doubt all moms are superheroes and deserve something special this Mother’s Day. Loudoun is the perfect place to spend the holiday weekend with — or without — your little ones in tow. Here are five ways to celebrate in Virginia’s countryside.
For the Wine Lover
Get ready to sip some Virginia vino and take in the views as the wineries roll out the red carpet for mom. Try the MOMosa Bar at Greenhill Winery & Vineyards (note this is a 21+ only winery) or a macaron and wine pairing at Breaux Vineyards. Trying to capture a new family photo for the holiday card? Winery 32 will be offering family photo shoots at the vineyard. At Tarara Winery, bring the whole family to a Garden Party, complete with finger sandwiches, pastries, lawn games and a pampering swag bag.
For the Foodie
From the southern classic of chicken and waffles at 8 Chains North to BBQ and complimentary bubbles at Roots 657, there are plenty of places to enjoy brunch this Mother’s Day. At Lansdowne Resort & Spa, savor Virginia Ham and get creative at the dim sum and risotto stations while at Salamander Resort & Spa indulge in everything from an elaborate seafood tower to a pasta station and bottomless mimosas. Moms looking for an all-natural treat should stroll over to Greenheart Juice Shop in Leesburg and Aldie for smoothie bowls and fresh pressed juices.
For the Art and Antiques Enthusiast
Help mom find something new for the house by strolling the galleries in historic Leesburg and Middleburg. Pop into 27 South Interiors for some chic home decor or visit the Middleburg Antique Emporium for a rare find. No mom will turn down accessories, so bring her to Hunt Country Jewelers to create a custom piece of jewelry. The Old Lucketts Store is also a must-visit for any antique lover as it features vintage finds from more than 35 dealers.
For the Garden Lover
What mom doesn’t love a beautiful garden? The warm weather has Loudoun blooming, so bring mom to Oatlands Historic House and Gardens to walk the gorgeous four-acre garden and enjoy a special afternoon tea. Throughout the weekend, Blooming Hill Lavender Farm & Gift Shop will host special teas and guest lectures about the role of women during the Civil War. This farm at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains features 1,000 stunning lavender plants in almost 100 different varieties.
For the Spa Lover
What mom doesn’t want a little time to relax and unwind at the spa? Aria Medispa, Yoga and Wellness Center will be offering various Mother’s Day weekend packages. De-stress with a thermal mineral hydro massage, relax in the salt room and indulge in an organic smoothie. Inova Medical Spa is also featuring discounted services for moms that range from facials to massages.
