Passengers landing and taking off at Washington Dulles International Airport will soon gaze down on an extraordinary sight: hundreds of acres of glistening solar panels. Located in the southwest corner of the airport’s property, the massive solar farm – the largest renewable energy project ever built at a U.S. airport – will feature 200,000 panels and 50 megawatts of battery storage, generating 100 megawatts of energy. On top of powering some of the airport's facilities, the farm will generate energy for more than 37,000 homes in the region, helping Loudoun and neighboring counties shift away from fossil fuels towards more sustainable energy. Dulles is the second fastest growing airport in the US.
