Impact of Tourism
Loudoun's tourism industry consists of a number of industries including accommodations, historic attractions, shopping, dining, meeting/event facilities, meeting and visitor services and so much more. These industries range from small independently owned farms, restaurants and retail shops to medium-sized business and large corporations. Visits Loudoun works with the entire tourism industry to maximize the benefits of tourism for Loudoun residents and the local economy in various ways:
- Visitors help pay your taxes.
- In 2017, Loudoun ranked third in visitor spending in Virginia, bringing in almost $1.8 billion, up 4.6 percent from 2016.
- In addition to increased travel spending, tourism-related state tax receipts for Loudoun in 2017 were about $47.2 million, up 3.3 percent, and local tax receipts were at $27.9 million, up 2.8 percent.
- Tourism Creates Jobs
- In 2017, the tourism industry supported 17,497 jobs and generated $695.4 million in wages, up 4.8 percent.
