Autism Friendly Loudoun

As an autism and sensory processing disorder (ASD/SPD) friendly destination, Loudoun County strives to provide a hospitable and safe environment for all visitors.

Visit Loudoun has partnered with Inova Loudoun Hospital, The George Washington University and The Arc of Loudoun on Paxton Campus to ensure Loudoun County is a welcoming place for visitors with SPD and ASD.

Beginning March 2018, the university’s Ashburn-based Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorder Institute will begin an innovative research and specialist training program to help address the needs of people with autism across various life stages.

To support these efforts, Visit Loudoun secured a special training through the Thompson Center for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders for 11 hospitality partners last fall to ensure that they can provide valuable and high-level services to the patients and their families.

In addition, the Children’s Emergency Room at Inova Loudoun Hospital developed the first autism-friendly ER in the Washington, DC region last year.
