Sun Room Release Tasting - July 2nd, 3-5pm This event is for Walsh Winegrowing Society Members only. Sun Room is a small-batch, experimental collaboration between two wineries. The idea is simple: How unique and distinctive can two wines be when originating from the exact same vineyard, varietal, and pick date? How strong is a winemaker’s touch and intention? And what will it all taste like? For the second vintage of Sun Room, we chose to start with the expressive, vibrant, and potent Malvasia Bianca grape. Malvasia is the epitome of sun – floral, bright, precise, illuminating, full of overt peach, white currant, apricot, and warmth. Grown at Early Mountain Vineyards, and picked all in one day, this potent fruit was sent to the winemaking teams at both Walsh Family Wine, in Loudoun County, and Septenary Winery, in Charlottesville. In each cellar unique and singular wines were crafted. The only rule was that the wines could not be the same. No blending. No funny stuff. What did we get? On the Walsh side, a skin-contact pet nat sparkling wine full of lively vibrant aromatics, light on its feet, with an amazingly refreshing finish. On the Septenary side, a carbonically-macerated, ambient-ferment, deep-thinkers white wine. Something to contemplate as midnight approaches. Each wine came from the same starting point. For the release event, Nate Walsh of Walsh Family Wine and Corry Craighill of Septenary Winery will discuss their different approaches to this grape, and what they were looking to achieve. We will taste the wines, enjoy some lite fare, and take a deep dive into the winemaking styles of two winemakers Sun Room Release Party - $40 / person. 21 + please. Includes a wine tasting, discussion, and lite fare (but not dinner!). Sun Room two-packs will be available for purchase while supplies last. Limited to 45 guests in order to ensure a comfortable environment.
