Here in Loudoun, DC’s Wine Country ® we all know that Virginia makes wine. There are over 200 wineries in the state with 36 alone in Loudoun (the most of any county in Virginia!) But how much do you know or hear about Virginia’s craft brewery scene? If your answer is “not much,” then the month of August is the perfect time to change your perception!
August is Virginia Craft Beer Month, dedicated to help raise awareness of Virginia’s craft beer scene. The theme for this year’s celebration of Virginia brews is Love on Tap – a nod to the Virginia is for Lovers® slogan. There are more than 60 breweries in the commonwealth and we have nine in Loudoun and at least six more slated to open in coming months. There are the brewpubs - MacDowell, Mad Horse, Sweetwater, and Vintage 50 – all crafting beers onsite and food to match. Lost Rhino Brewing Company has gained a fast and large following and seem to be constantly expanding their space to make room for more beer and the crowds that follow. Corcoran Brewing Company has 25 beer recipes they rotate on their taps as well as a winery and barbecue stand on the same property to make sure there’s something to please everyone’s palate. And if you’re looking for a more intimate experience, check out Barnhouse Brewery and the newest of the bunch – Crooked Run Brewing at Market Station in downtown Leesburg.
So come see how Love is on Tap in Virginia. Plan your visit to one of our local breweries today. Cheers!
