Loudoun’s event scene always has something great happening. We’re well known for our great steeplechase races, wine festivals, and several long-standing live music concert series. But we have some events that showcase Loudoun's sense of place – our country fairs. And this month and next, we have two fairs that have offered authentic cultural experiences for nearly eight decades combined.

The 38th Annual Lucketts Fair August 28-29, 2010 This historic Old Lucketts School, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is the backdrop for this genuine country fair that features juried handmade crafts, antiques, historic demonstrations, and live music. Bluegrass bands play in an outdoor gazebo and down-home food tempts visitors at every turn. Children’s entertainment includes live shows, fire truck rides, a petting zoo, and pony rides. The event is held 10am-5pm both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $8 per person. Children under age 5 are free.

The 40th Annual Bluemont Fair September 18-19, 2010 Experience an authentic country fair in this historic village nestled in the foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. Enjoy live music, over 100 juried crafters, artisan demonstrations, antiques, local art, wine tastings, pie and pickling contests, and more. Stop in the country store and view slide shows of Civil War and railroad history. Kids will enjoy the children’s fair, pony rides, and caboose. A 10K race kicks off the event at 8am on Saturday. The event is held 10am-5pm both Saturday and Sunday. Admission is $5 per person; $5 per person for wine tasting (21 years and older). Children under age 10 are free.

See you at the fairs!
