Launched in 1969, Virginia is for Lovers is one of the oldest and most recognized travel slogans and the Virginia Tourism Corporation wants to remind travelers of this message in a BIG new way. Over the past year giant LOVE artworks have been popping up around the commonwealth, reminding visitors that love is at the heart of every Virginia vacation.
Loudoun is proud to be one of 16 sites across the state to build a unique, themed LOVEwork. And of course, since we’re DC’s Wine Country, the Loudoun LOVEwork has a wine country theme.
Pretty awesome, right? Each letter represents different elements of Loudoun's wine country and includes wine and beer labels, corks from all of Loudoun’s wineries (including a few that haven’t opened yet), local artistry, and the DC’s Wine Country brand.
The installation in Purcellville sits outside the Historic Purcellville Train Station at the end of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park trail and next to Magnolias at the Mill Restaurant (one of Loudoun’s Destination Restaurants). Visitors are encouraged to take a picture with the LOVEwork and share it on social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram with the hashtags #LoveVA and #DCsWineCountry. Keep an eye out for the sixth edition of our Touring Guide to DC’s Wine Country, scheduled to be reprinted in the coming weeks. Inside you’ll find details on how posting a photo with the #DCsWineCountry hashtag can win you prizes, including tickets to a new signature event coming to Loudoun this summer.
After capturing your LOVEworks photo, be sure to stop by the Purcellville Train Station where they’ll be hosting a Loudoun winery every weekend from now through October for wine tastings and sales. The Visitors Center can also help direct you to Loudoun’s wineries, breweries, and restaurants to make the most of your wine country getaway.
