Loudoun County Courthouse

Courtesy Library of Congress

Our photo of the day today is an image of four men posing in front of the Loudoun County Courthouse in historic Leesburg. From the Library of Congress digital collections, the estimated date of the photo is 1920. I like this photo as it shows the historic courthouse building in the background that still stands near the intersections of Market and King streets in Leesburg, or Routes 7 and 15. Built in 1895, the courthouse is the third one to be erected on that spot. It rises on four columns, and is capped by a clock and bell housed in a belfry. The Courthouse is part of the Leesburg Historic District recognized by the Virginia Historic Landmarks Commission. Today, this spot is still a great place for a photo op when you're in Loudoun. So grab 3 friends and hit the road to Loudoun, just like these guys did 90 years ago!
