I’m not a fan of creating new year’s resolutions - the pressure of completing a resolution takes any joy out of the process. But I do enjoy reflecting on the year past as a new year begins. Looking back on Loudoun in 2013, it was a great year to take note of. Several new attractions and events launched, bringing lots of attention and recognition to the region from media, celebrity chefs, renowned wine critics, and even some Hollywood celebs. The long anticipated Salamander Resort and Spa opened in Middleburg and began welcoming guests with their hunt country inspired accommodations, cuisine, and hospitality. Two major annual events launched this year - the epic culinary experience of Epicurience Virginia and the star studded Middleburg Film Fest. Speaking of films, cinema goers are being treated to a new style of movie going experience from the Austin-based Alamo Drafthouse Cinema’s new location in Ashburn with themed movie nights, fresh cuisine, and local brews. And DC’s Wine Country is now home to 39 wineries and tasting rooms after five new wineries opened last year - Cardamon Family Vineyards, Carroll Vineyards, Greenhill Vineyards and Winery, Maggie Malick Wine Caves, and Stone Tower Winery. See? Loudoun had quite a year! And if you missed any of it, no worries. This and more are waiting for your visit in 2014. Go ahead and make a resolution of it. It’s one you’ll be happy to keep.
