It’s Monday morning and here comes that question you hear every week from friends and colleagues -  “How was your weekend?”

After weeks of frigid temperatures and snowpocalypses keeping much of the nation indoors, for me, it’s become a dreaded question. My answer has been the same for weeks on end - “Not much” or some similar answer involving TV marathons, comfort food, and hibernation. But now there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. Spring is truly just a few weeks away.

In my house, we’ve decided to fill these last few weekends of winter with fun activities to lift our spirits and quickly pass the time until we can welcome the warmth of spring with short-sleeve wearing arms. We’ve decided to focus on learning and experiencing new things and to begin tackling some of those New Year’s resolutions we’ve let slide while winter has lingered.  From taking a class to seeing new sites, it’s already proving to be a great way to spend these last weeks of winter. This Monday morning, there’s this strange feeling on my face (is that a smile?!) and I find myself saying, “I had a GREAT weekend!”

Loudoun is full of pros offering up the secrets to most any passion. Learn to make sushi or other new cuisine at one of Loudoun’s many cooking classes. Want to learn more about wine? Be a winemaker for a day, try a vertical tasting, or take a wine blending class with a winemaker.  Check out an art exhibit or watch artists at work during The Gateway Gallery’s Sunday Demo Days, hosted every Sunday. Grab the kids and head over to the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center for one of their Super Science Saturdays. Start raising those energy levels that have been dormant all season with a visit to one of Loudoun’s recreation attractions. From go kart racing to indoor rock climbing to paintball, there’s bound to be an activity that satisfies your whole family. And before you know it, that light at the end of winter’s tunnel will be much warmer and brighter.
