Having worked in a few wineries I can tell you that there is nothing like stepping outside at the end of the workday, sitting down with a glass of wine as you literally and figuratively soak in its terroir, and just letting the day wash away in those spectacular views. It’s truly blissful and the best way to end the day. You can experience this “wine down” yourself as several Loudoun wineries offer extended summer hours on Fridays and Saturdays. Many offer live music, local art shows, special food vendors, and more to add a little festivity to the start of the weekend. But you can probably still find a quiet picnic table if you want to just relax, watch the sun set, and take it all in.
Here’s a sampling of wineries with extended hours and special activities during the summer. Please note that hours listed are for the event. Most wineries are open throughout the day. Call or visit their website for current hours and additional details. Check out our event calendar for a more detailed list of wine country events.
Doukenie Winery’s Bistro Nights Fri 6-9pm The deck at Doukénie was recently expanded so there’s plenty of outdoor seating overlooking the pond, vineyards, and nearby mountains. Bistro Nights features live music and pizza for sale from Pizzeria Moto’s mobile brick oven.
Sunset Hills Vineyard’s Tropical Thursdays and Fiesta Fridays They don’t call it Sunset Hills for nothing. The views here are gorgeous and can be enjoyed from the two tiered wrap around decks. Tropical Thursdays are held the 2nd and 4th Thursdays from 5-9pm and feature live local reggae music and Sunset Hills’ fruity frozen wine-a-ritas. Come back on Fridays from 12-8pm for more wine-a-ritas, Mariachi music, and lite fare.
Fugosa at Loudoun Valley Vineyards Fri-Sat 5-9pm Enjoy the ultimate relaxing evening by taking the worry of dinner plans out of the equation as well. Loudoun Valley Vineyards is now home to Fugosa Restaurant, a tapas style restaurant creating foods to pair with Loudoun Valley’s wines.
