Town of Round Hill

Town of Round Hill

In 1741, Lord Fairfax granted a tract of land to Thomas Gregg of Delaware on which Round Hill is located. Its name is derived from the 910-foot high round hill situated two miles to the southwest of town and was used by both Union and Confederate troops as a signal post during the Civil War.

After the Leesburg and Snickers' Gap Turnpike was built between 1832 and 1833, the stagecoach began stopping in Round Hill. A post office was established in 1858. In 1875, when the Washington and Old Dominion  Railroad arrived, the town began to thrive. Howell Brothers' furniture factory  was established in 1885, and in 1900 the town was officially incorporated.  Today, the factory contains the Round Hill Arts Center and offers art classes and is a venue for the performing arts.

Round Hill is Loudoun's westernmost town and as the gateway to the Blue Ridge Mountains and nearby Appalachian Trail, offers visitors spectacular scenery and plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Hill High Orchard offers some of the best pies on the east coast, a fishing pond, and a picnic area. Many Washingtonians drive out here to purchase freshly baked pies.
