Town of Purcellville

Town of Purcellville

Settled by Quakers from Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1764, the charming farm town of Purcellville is the center of commerce in western Loudoun. Defined by its restored train depot, the town’s railroad heritage began in 1874 with the arrival of the Washington and Old Dominion (W&OD) Railroad. Today the W&OD rail bed has been converted to a wonderful multi-use recreation trail that runs 45 miles from Arlington, Virginia west to Purcellville.

In the historic area of Purcellville you will find many antique shops and one of the oldest hardware stores in the country, Nichols Hardware. Samuel S. Case Cabinetmakers features authentic hand-made furniture. Magnolia's at the Mill, set in a restored mill, offers visitors an exceptional Loudoun dining experience. Nearby are unique agricultural businesses including farms that feature pick-your-own fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, and other local farm products.

Purcellville celebrates its community each May during its Heritage Day and July brings Arts in the Alley. It also hosts national softball tournaments during the summer months.
