Sunset Hills Vineyard

The first thing I have to mention is the first thing anyone will notice about Sunset Hills Vineyard - this place is gorgeous. The owners restored an old barn and did so beautifully. The sunsets & views are pretty amazing but we unfortunately did not experience them on this February day. After we gawked at the space for awhile we moseyed up to the mahogany bar centered in the tasting room. The woman conducting our tasting was very friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the wines which were all good. The owners started growing the grapes in 1997 and just opened the winery Summer of 2008. Our favorite was the Cabernet Sauvignon, smooth & full. They also offer two styles of Chardonnay (one stainless & crisp, the other oaked & buttery). It's nice to taste them side by side. I'm looking forward to spending a warm spring afternoon on their deck with a glass of that crisp Chardonnay!

Everybody's home town.
Purcellville was settled by Quakers from Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1764. The charming farm town became the center of commerce in Western Loudoun with the arrival of the railroad in 1874. Today, the rail bed has been converted to the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad Regional Park, a paved multi-use recreation trail that runs 45 miles from Arlington, Virginia to Purcellville.
The town's blend of history, special events, and numerous shops and restaurants create an inviting environment for neighbors and visitors alike. In the historic area you will find many antique shops and one of the oldest hardware stores in the country, Nichols Hardware, where several generations of the Nichols family still hand-write receipts. Locals claim that if Nichols doens't have what you're looking for within its three stories, then you don't need it. Nearby, Samuel S. Case Cabinetmakers authentically hand makes furniture. And don't miss the Purcellville Marketplace for unique gifts and holiday decor.
Magnolia's at the Mill, one of Loudoun's five destination restaurants, offers visitors an exceptional Loudoun dining experience in a rustic mill setting. Or dine with Betty McDavid, who has waited on tables at the Purcellville Family Restaurant for more than three decades.
Many agricultural businesses including farms that feature pick-your-own fruits, vegetables, herbs, and flowers, are located near Purcellville.
Purcellville's small town community can be experienced during its July 4th and Christmas parades and each May during its Heritage Day.
