Small town America.
Hamilton was founded in the mid-1700s and began to flourish in 1868 when the Washington and Old Dominion railroad began running from Alexandria to Hamilton, bringing visitors from Washington and Baltimore looking for relief in the cooler summer air of the Loudoun Valley. It was incorporated in 1875 as Harmony, because of its small town atmosphere, friendliness, and spirit of harmony. Today, Hamilton embodies the term "small town America." For a historic perspective, pick up the “Hamilton Walking Tour,” a self-guided tour of historic homes and sites, at the Leesburg Visitors Center.
While visiting, don't miss Lowry's Farm Market, which offers fresh seafood, dairy products, vegetables, flowers, and garden supplies, and the Natural Mercantile, featuring organically-grown produce and other foods, and specialty items. Local fare can be found at The Beautiful South, at the town's east entrance.
Hamilton celebrates its community each June during Hamilton Day with a parade through the center of town, homes tours, children's activities, barbeque, and vendors.
